Together with some media friends, I got to see the Sultanahmet district, the heart of Istanbul. This is where you’ll find the Topkapi Palace (the official home of Ottoman sultans for over 400 years), the Ayasofya (the greatest church in the Christian world until it was turned into a mosque by Mehmet the Conqueror after he gained control of the city in 1453) )and the Blue Mosque (so called because of its interior tiles). I’ll tell you more about the sights to see and shopping to be done in this amazing city next week! In the mean time, here are some snapshots I took during my trip.

The name escapes me at the moment, but this old church along Istiklal Caddesi in Beyoglu is straight out of the history books. The details are amazing, from the ornate ceiling to the elaborate altar area

Old buildings retain their charm in Beyoglu, the more modern district of Istanbul built during the 19th century
