Designer and developer Ed Sarangaya knows what he wants, and as his home proves, one can never have too much of a good thing. Set in the serene seaside community of Peninsula de Punta Fuego in Batangas, Ed’s home is a treasure trove of pieces acquired from local furniture fairs and travels abroad. Though the sheer number of furniture might serve to overwhelm a smaller space, his multi-storey home provides more than enough room to display his collection to great effect.

“There was no more space in Tito Ed’s other house,” laughs architect Rodin Fernandez, “so we built this one for his stuff. He knew exactly how he wanted his home to look like, so we had a really easy time working with him.” Rodin made sure that there were no walls parallel to the property line, which maximized the views of the surrounding areas.

Elaborately carved doors signal the entry to Ed’s home, the façade of which hints at the Asian-Mediterranean influences that abound within. Two cozy spots opposite each other mark the entry; one with a two-seater filled with plush oriental pillows, the other with an accent chair set beside a console table. Brick walls and terracotta tiles set the tone in this space, which opens up to the airy living area filled with a delightful mix of furniture and accessories. Rodin’s brother Nicolo created a garden that brought to fore the sweeping views of sun and sea, all visible from the glass doors that span two sides of the house.

“It’s theoretically Mediterranean,” says Ed of his home. ‘Theoretically’ is probably a good word to use, as the place is filled with pieces in different styles from different countries. “I may not remember the names or stores where I bought my things from,” he continues, “But I remember everything I have.”
