Color is probably the most popular
element of interior design. Aside from being widely
used, it also is something that a lot of people
are familiar with and use in their homes. However,
the safe mindset of Filipinos makes us partial to
beige and other neutrals. Color is a fun design
element, but one must understand its effects in
interiors to maximize its potential and application.
With its infinite combinations, color can be tricky,
but it’s not impossible to gain mastery over
it by knowing its properties and characteristics.
Color lends a certain look depending on
temperature and mood but certain
variables have to be considered.
Color application affects
these three variables and
the way that color is
distributed and paired
with other variables will
also be of interest to
those who love to
work color.

LIGHT
Always note that lighting affects how color registers.
Incandescent bulb is still the best when dealing
with bright and vibrant hues. This type of bulb
renders colors in their best tones. However, since
these bulbs are high energy consumers, other
alternatives have popped up such as CFLs that require
lower energy consumption.
Halogens are also great for color rendition. The
colors are at its best and are viewed accurately
but they produce so much heat. On the other hand,
LED lights have become popular and a standard in
most modern homes. They provide great color rendition
and allow colors to be appreciated in their right
hues. Though more expensive than the regular light
bulb, LED lights last longer.
Natural light is also good for colors but sunlight
has a tendency to make colors fade with prolonged
exposure. The worst kind of light for the appreciation
of colors are the cool white fluorescent lights
or most popularly known as daylight. They render
colors blandly and inaccurately.
